This includes managing the carbon intensity of oil and gas activities, and supporting hydrogen power projects, carbon capture and storage projects, and offshore wind developments.

Environmental Engineering

Our environment team provides advice for system design either within a client’s design management team or as an independent environmental advisor. Areas of expertise include: 

  • Environmental basis of design 

  • Emissions and discharges registers 

  • Best available techniques (BAT) assessments 

  • Identification and management of environmentally critical elements (ECEs). 

 

Environmental engineers can interpret engineering and technical information to help develop documentation that supports project delivery and assessments required by clients or regulatory authorities to justify plant and equipment selection. 

Environmental Modelling

Our team has wide-ranging experience in modelling emissions and discharges using commercial and in-house tools.  

 

We work with clients to define scenarios so that the modelling work supports decision-making and we have modelling expertise in: 

  • Air dispersion of pollutants (AERMOD, ISCST3, CALPUFF, ADMS)  

  • Storage tank VOC emissions (TankESP) 

  • Noise propagation (PREDICTOR) 

  • Underwater noise (Genesis-FARAM) 

  • Thermal plumes in marine environments (CORMIX)

Environmental & Social Impact Assessment

By integrating specialist engineering skills, environmental science, in-country knowledge and stakeholder engagement, we provide a fully rounded support service.  Applying our knowledge and experience of regulations, ecological and social sensitivities, engineering processes, operations and project economics helps us advise on best practice and measures to offset potentially adverse environmental and social impacts.  

 

We prepare environmental impact assessments for offshore and onshore projects. In addition, we provide specialist support such as marine noise impact assessments and survey planning. 

Carbon and Energy Management

We are experienced in managing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions with knowledge of emissions quantification and reporting methodologies and techniques to reduce GHG emissions.  

 

Our environmental engineers work in multi-discipline project teams to assess GHG implications of engineering options and identify reduction measures.  

 

Energy management on existing installations gives the opportunity to reduce GHG emissions. Our engineers work with client teams to identify and quantify energy saving opportunities.  

Permits and Licensing Support

Our team knows the processes and requirements for regulatory submissions for onshore and offshore operations. We routinely engage with environmental regulators and statutory consultees.  

 

We have a strong track record of supporting clients in achieving regulatory compliance, providing permit applications and relevant supporting studies. Our team achieves this through its understanding of regulatory requirements and regulator’s objectives, as well as its presentation of study findings. 

 

We have a strong track record of supporting onshore oil and gas operators to achieve regulatory compliance, providing applications and variations under the Pollution Prevention and Control Regulations and the Environment Permitting Regulations. 

 

Our engineers conduct energy audits in compliance with the European Energy Saving Opportunities Scheme (ESOS) and in line with ISO50001. We also have Lead Assessors qualified to sign off energy assessments carried out under ESOS. 

UK Compliance Expertise 

Our significant experience of using BEIS’s Portal Environmental Tracking System (PETS) is central to managing of all permitting of offshore oil and gas installations and activities. Our in-depth knowledge and understanding of the PETS process includes:

Decommissioning and Planning Advice

We undertake studies on the decommissioning of onshore and offshore oil & gas facilities. Our experience is multidisciplinary and includes comparative assessment (safety, technical, cost and environmental considerations), the preparation of decommissioning programmes, EIAs, pre and post decommissioning survey requirements, cost estimation, waste management plans and preparation of associated permits and consents.
