Genesis Hosts Industry Roundtable on Making Energy & Energy Transition Projects Bankable in the UK

The successful forum brought together industry leaders to explore how projects can progress from concept to financial close.

On 22 October 2026, Genesis hosted an exclusive industry roundtable on Making Energy & Energy Transition Projects Bankable in the UK at our London office. Organised by our Environmental & Advisory Solutions Practice, the event brought together around 35 attendees from across the energy value chain, including project developers, operators, financiers, legal advisors, regulators and Genesis specialists.

Held under Chatham House rules, the session provided an open forum for discussion on the financing, risk and regulatory considerations shaping project success across the UK energy sector. Participants included representatives from organisations such as Lloyds, NatWest, DNB, KfW IPEX-Bank, MUFG, EET, CMS and the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA).

Key topics covered included:

  • Navigating financial risks: the bank's perspective
  • What is needed to get a hydrogen or CCUS project to financial close?
  • Development & technology risk in energy transition projects
  • Accessing transition finance: a regulatory and legal perspective

A clear theme emerged throughout the discussions: bankability needs to be engineered into projects from the outset, with the appropriate level of engineering maturity applied early to support investment decisions.

Participants explored the importance of understanding lender expectations early, allocating risk appropriately, addressing technology maturity and system integration challenges, and aligning commercial strategies with market realities.

The roundtable generated valuable dialogue between banks, developers and industry stakeholders, with conversations continuing beyond the formal programme. It also provided a platform for networking, knowledge sharing and strengthening collaboration across the industry, reinforcing the importance of bringing technical, commercial and financial perspectives together to advance energy and energy transition projects.

Genesis extends its sincere thanks to all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions. We look forward to continuing these conversations and supporting clients as they navigate the technical, commercial and financing challenges associated with project development and delivery.
