NEP has officially commenced its offshore construction campaign, marking a major milestone in the development of the UK's first offshore carbon transport and storage infrastructure. Genesis has supported NEP for nearly eight years and will continue providing engineering support as the project progresses through its next phase.
NEP, an incorporated joint venture between bp, Equinor and TotalEnergies, is developing infrastructure to transport and store carbon dioxide (CO₂) safely beneath the North Sea. The project will serve as the transportation and storage provider for the East Coast Cluster, including NZT Power, which is set to become the world’s first large-scale gas-fired power station and will capture CO₂ emissions from industrial facilities across Teesside.
Genesis has supported NEP from early concept development. As the project evolved, Genesis provided NEP with services across front-end engineering, optimisation and detailed design. The scope of work delivered by Genesis for NEP includes flow assurance, pipeline design, subsea systems, landfall engineering, technical safety studies and environmental permitting support.
More recently, the Genesis team completed the detailed design phase under the Offshore Systems Engineering contract awarded in 2024.
Reaching this milestone is a significant achievement for NEP and its partners. Our continued involvement demonstrates Genesis' ability to deliver value across the full project lifecycle and reflects our expertise in CO₂ transport and subsea engineering.
Genesis will continue to provide engineering assurance and technical support as construction activities progress through 2028.
