Genesis has been awarded a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contract for the onshore pipeline scope of Peak Cluster, the world’s largest cement carbon capture and storage project in the heart of the United Kingdom’s cement and lime production region.
Located in central England across Derbyshire and Staffordshire, the Peak Cluster operators account for 40 percent of the UK's cement and lime production and support more than 2,000 highly-skilled jobs. However, the production of these vital products emits over 3 million tonnes of CO2 each year, which equates to around a quarter of all CO2 emissions in Derbyshire and Staffordshire.
Peak Cluster will capture the CO2, at its source, before safely transporting the emissions through a purpose built dedicated underground pipeline to Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ) - a secure permanent storage site deep beneath the East Irish Sea.
As part of the FEED contract for the onshore pipeline, Genesis will apply its engineering expertise to develop the route and technical specifications, high-level cost estimates and essential project plans.
Genesis will offer comprehensive full-system engineering services, including process, flow assurance, pipeline design, environmental studies and technical safety. The project will be led from Genesis’ London base and supported by other offices as well as Global Centres.
Genesis is delighted to receive this award from the Peak Cluster Ltd. to deliver this critical infrastructure project. This recognition reinforces our commitment to supporting the decarbonisation of UK industries. Leveraging our expertise, we work in close partnership with our clients from the initial concept to FEED, focusing on minimising risks, to deliver a constructible and consentable design to ensure the project’s success.
Peak Cluster is focused on securing a sustainable future for the cement and lime industry. Together with MNZ, the UK’s biggest carbon store, we will capture, transport and store CO₂ to support industry here in the UK to thrive in a low-carbon future.
Together with the Peak Cluster operators and our investors, our delivery team, including Genesis, is working to ensure that Peak Cluster can secure the future of this foundation industry, creating a backbone of industrial opportunity that benefits communities across the north of England.
Together with storage partner MNZ, Peak Cluster will deliver vital carbon capture infrastructure, attract £5 billion in capital investment, create thousands of jobs and produce highly sought-after low-carbon cement and lime for the UK and across the globe.

About Peak Cluster
Peak Cluster is a collaboration of leading British industries, transforming production of a sector vital to the nation.
Peak Cluster consists of four cement and lime production plants in and around the Peak District. They are owned by Tarmac, Breedon, Buxton Lime in Derbyshire and Holcim in Staffordshire.
Peak Cluster is developing the infrastructure to capture, transport and store carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas, which is unavoidably emitted as part of the cement and lime production process. The CO2 will be captured in purpose-built facilities situated at the cement and lime production plants. It will then be transported by a purpose-built underground pipeline to Morecambe Net Zero, operated by Spirit Energy.
Peak Cluster will revolutionise the vital industries producing society’s essential materials, getting them ready to compete internationally in a low carbon global economy.
On July 7th 2025, National Wealth Fund announced a £28.6m equity investment into Peak Cluster Ltd, unlocking £31 million from private partners including Holcim, Tarmac, Breedon, Buxton Lime, Summit Energy Evolution and Progressive Energy, creating a flagship private-public partnership to support the development of the Peak Cluster CO2 pipeline infrastructure.
