Genesis Awarded Direct Injection CO₂ Storage Pre-FEED Contract for Perenco’s Poseidon Project

Genesis is proud to announce the award of a direct injection CO₂ Storage Pre-FEED contract for Perenco’s Poseidon Project, located offshore UK. This milestone reinforces our leadership in CO₂ transport and storage solutions.

The pre-FEED scope includes direct CO₂ injection through a ship-to-offshore storage facility accessing Leman Field, a depleted gas reservoir in the UK’s Southern North Sea. At the same time, Genesis is repurposing existing oil and gas infrastructure to reduce costs and accelerate CCS deployment.

Genesis is proud to have been awarded this innovative CO₂ storage Pre-FEED contract by Perenco. This project focuses on repurposing existing infrastructure whilst minimising upfront risks and capital expenditure. Through this initiative, we reaffirm our mission to building a more sustainable future.

Helen Coleman, Managing Director of Genesis

As part of operations for the Poseidon Project’s initial commercial phase, Genesis is:

  • Executing the pre-FEED surface studies to determine ship-based CO₂ transport, including marine offloading and handling, and subsea and injection facilities to inject CO₂ into existing wells in depleted compartments of the Leman gas field.
  • Establishing ways to reduce costs and environmental impacts by reusing platforms and integrating with ongoing gas operations.
  • Determining flow assurance strategies to handle CO₂ phase behaviour during intermittent injection and optimising inlet CO₂ specifications for material selection.
  • Developing risk assessments for CO₂ handling and potential interface with natural gas, ensuring compliance with UK CCS regulations, offshore safety standards and environmental requirements.

The first commercial phase will enable the transport and storage of up to 1.5 million tonnes per annum of liquid CO₂, shipped by converted cargo vessels and directly injected into two existing wells.

Perenco’s Poseidon Project is designed to offer a permanent storage solution for emitters located away from pipeline networks. Together with Genesis’ strong track record in major offshore CCS developments, the two companies are building momentum as key contributors to the UK’s emerging carbon capture infrastructure.
